He lived a life of quiet devotion, unseen and unnoticed by the world. He wasn’t a remarkable man, but he had one purpose: to serve his Goddess.
Each week, he would send her money—sometimes all he had—to prove his loyalty. In return, she would grant him brief moments of her attention, calling him her "good boy" and reminding him of his place beneath her. These interactions, brief and transactional, became the center of his world.
He built a small shrine in his home, a private altar where he could worship her in solitude. He placed offerings there: the receipts of his payments, her pictures, and notes she had sent him. It was his sacred space, a place where he could feel close to her, even though she remained distant and untouchable.
One day, Goddess sent him a message: "You’ve been loyal. But remember, your life is still yours. Don’t lose yourself in your devotion."
Her words struck something deep within him, but he quickly pushed the thought away. He didn’t need to find himself. Serving her was all he ever wanted, all he ever needed. And so, he continued to pay for the privilege of serving her.
